A major step forward in orthopedic diagnostics, the Gait Scan is a device
that designs orthotics for patients through advanced pressure analysis
technology.
Unlike the traditional method of casting the patient
in a static position, sending the cast molds to an outside company, and
then receiving the orthotics in 3-4 weeks, the Gait Scan assesses foot
function in a dynamic position (while striding), digitally images foot
pressures in 2-D or 3-D and calculates an analysis report of the patients
gait (comparing to “ideal” mechanics).
The computer generated information is utilized to provide a truly
customized orthotic in 10-14 days.
Information such as ones activity level, underlying medical conditions
(such as diabetes) and low back, hip, or knee problems are input in the
system which help develop the appropriate composition of the orthotic.
The reports generated can also serve as assessment
documentation for the patients’ educational purposes, insurance claims, and patients’ referring
physicians.
